Daily Draw: Seven of Pentacles

The Daily Draw updatedDoes this card look familiar to you?  That’s because it is!  I just pulled this as a daily draw on 10/25.  So I guess I still have some work to do with the seven of Pentacles.  Maybe it’s a hint to do some more work at our house.  We’re sort of in the middle of a re configuring of the master bedroom, but it’s stalled a little.

pentacles7I can take a hint.  Get back to it! I’ll definitely appreciate the fruits of my labors if I tackle the giant mountain of laundry.

Where in your life can you appreciate the fruits of your labors?  Where in your life do you need to focus more effort in order to reap positive results?

Daily Draw: Seven of Pentacles

The Daily Draw updatedToday’s pull was the Seven of Pentacles.  It traditionally means appreciating your hard pentacles7work and maybe harvesting what you planted.  It can also indicate an evaluation of what you’re growing.  I had tarot.com pull a daily card for me today since I wasn’t in a position to be able to do a physical pull for myself today.  The pulled a card from the Paulina Tarot which is not a deck that I own, but it is one I like.  I’ve got her Joie de Vivre tarot deck.

This weekend was a combination of work and rest for my wife and I.  We took on our messy kitchen and cleaned out the fridge, which is a big project since we don’t do either often enough.  I am in the midst of reconfiguring our bedroom furniture as well to give us a more sanctuary like feeling.  The room had been fairly chaotic with our laundry everywhere and now, with the help of a room divider we already had, we have a comfy partitioned off sleeping area that is very cozy and restful.

This all makes good sense with this card.  I can really appreciate the fruits of my labors.  A clean workable kitchen and a restful sleeping place.  I also like how she looks evaluative here.  There are things I could change about the bedroom, so maybe I should give it a few days and then make adjustments.

Daily Draw: Seven of Wands

The Daily Draw updatedI’m trying to get back into the habit of the Daily Draw.  Which, as every tarot course will

Seven of Wands from the Universal Fantasy Tarot

tell you, is a fantastic way of learning your cards and even after you’ve learned them, of deepening your connection to them.

Seven of Wands from the Shadowscapes Tarot

So I’m trying to do that.  And this morning I drew the Seven of Wands.  Which was the card of the day that I featured not four days ago.  And the really interesting thing is this: I’m away from my cards right now, but I forgot to draw one this morning so I went to a random tarot card website to have it pull one for me.

And it pulled the seven of wands again.

When cards repeat themselves it’s generally a good idea to pay attention to them.  Especially when they show themselves in such different ways.

As I talked about before, the seven of wands is about standing your ground, even when the odds seem stacked against you.  I guess I’ll need to look for an area where I might be baking down.  A challenge at work comes to mind, so maybe it means I really should write that email.

Card of the Day: Seven of Wands

Today’s card is the Seven of Wands from the Happy Tarot.

fullsizerenderThe poor little seven of wands.  Se’s got such a worried look on her face.  She’s backed up onto a hill, might be missing one of her shoes, and from the looks of it, that river of frosting might make for some unsteady footing.  The crowd of wands (presumably being brandished by something/someone) jostle menacingly in the foreground.  Her posture is very defensive, but there’s a note of not wanting to hurt anyone.  Notice how she’s pointing the (and yes, this is stretching a little) non-pointy end at the crowd.  If we view the frosting covered end as the fighting end, which makes sense in this metaphor since the ends being brandished are the frosting ends.

The fact that she has one boot and one barefoot (or it could be a shoe) are an indicator that she’s conflicted.  She’s got one foot in the world of all those other wands and one foot over that hill into the unknown.  Maybe she’s running from an oppressive government or a bad family situation.

Or maybe those other six wands are fighting amongst themselves.  Maybe she’s watching from her vantage point and staying out of the fight entirely.  Those two different footwear might indicate that she can understand both positions, but the fact that she’s not in the fighting means that she doesn’t agree with either one.

She doesn’t want to have to hurt these people, but she’s reached her limit.  It’s the fight or flight moment and she’s chosen to face down her problems.  She’s making her stand on her little hill and she’s going to defend it.

If you see this in a reading it’s a message to stand firm.  You might be getting a lot of pressure from opposing sides, but hang in there.  Keep aware of your surroundings, stay up on the hill and don’t get mired in the mud and fighting below, but don’t give up either.  Maybe you can see both sides of the fight and can see the pros and cons of each.  Like that cat in the famous 80s posters they sold at every book fair, Hang in there!

Card of the Day: Seven of Cups

Today’s card is the Seven of Cups from the Night Vale Tarot

Today’s card depicts everyone’s favorite scientist, Carlos!  This card img_0544depicts that terrifying moment where Carlos went into The Condo.  In case you haven’t heard the episode (and I encourage you to do so if you haven’t, it was an amazing episode!!) Condos appear for sale in Night Vale and Carlos goes to investigate them and possibly buy one for himself and Cecil.  The condos draw people in, showing them images of things that they are fascinated by–for some it’s a lost city in a jungle, for others it’s endless rows of scientific equipment.  In each case the person must choose between this perfect fantasy life that is only an illusion or their real life which might be disappointing but is real.

It’s an imperfect summation of the episode, so here’s a quote that I think helps capture the energy of the moment.  Carlos has stepped into the Condo, as you can see in the card, and Cecil has come to bring him back.

“And there was a moment. There was a moment, dear listeners, where I considered it. I considered joining Carlos and becoming perfect. But I’ve come to know something after these months together with dear Carlos.

Perfection isn’t real. Perfection isn’t human. And Carlos is not perfect, no. Even better — he is imperfect.

Everything about him, and us, and all of this, is…it’s imperfect! And those imperfections in our reality are the seams and the cracks into which our out-sized love can seep and pool. And sometimes we are annoyed, and disappointed, and that too is a part of how love works. It is not a perfect system, but…

Oh, well.

And so I resisted.

I fought off the vision of the shrouded figures and the dark planet and all that was perfect and I held close to imperfection.

To my imperfection.

And to my imperfect Carlos.”

Condos – Welcome to Night Vale

The Seven of Cups is a card of many choices.  In this depiction there are so many Condos!  So many ‘perfect’ lives that you can pick from.  Standing there and seeing them all could paralyze you.  You know that by making a choice, even if it looks like a really good choice, it means that you are not choosing one of the others.  The Night Vale Seven of Cups reminds us that is is important not to be paralyzed by fear of making the wrong choice.

In some other depictions of the Seven of Cups a person looks at a selection of cups all with exciting things in them, and the message there is to not get lost in wondering over all the possibilities and forget to act at all.

The Night Vale Seven of Cups is a little different.  With the condos the choices aren’t exactly exciting, they’re kind of terrifying.  This card is showing you a choice between a perfect imaginary life where you give up your free will or a real life that you choose but might be imperfect.  Do you embrace the imperfections like Cecil or do you let yourself get lost in the dreamworld?

In your life you’ll make choices and some might mean disappointment, but it is better to choose and continue living than to get so trapped in fear of losing that perfect life that you don’t live any kind of life at all?  Make your choice.
